Paris Weekend Break
The Musee Rodin
The Rodin Museum (dedicated to artist Auguste Rodin) is located very close to the Musee d’Orsay in a building that was formerly the Hotel Biron. The building is imposing, as are its artistic contents once inside.
History
From the dates of 1840 to 1917 the artist Auguste Rodin undertook many of his works from the "then" hotel Biron where he lived and worked for many years. Consequently the museum is not only a repository of his work, but also and almost uniquely, the site where many were conceived and created.
Within the Rodin Museum all visitors can see many of Rodin's stunning marble sculptures, and amongst those on display are "The Kiss" and "The Hand of God". The displays then continue in to the grounds where, in the garden surrounding the museum, can be found bronzes including the internationally the recognized “The Thinker”.
The museum is not only confined to Rodin’s work, but also includes the artistic output of several other artist and sculptors including and paintings by Van Gogh, Renoir and Edouard Manet. There are also some works by Camille Claudel (a pupil and mistress of Rodin).
Location
The Rodin Museum is situated at, 77 Rue de Varenne, Paris and it is open between the hours of 9.30am to 5.45pm (garden till 6.45pm) between April and September.
The museum closes about one hour earlier between October and May and is closed on Mondays.
Maximum admission to the museum and gardens is 6 euros (with an additional charge for exhibitions) and, as is usually the case in Paris, the first Sunday in each month offers free entr to all.
