Churches and Cathedrals
Below is a list of the larger and more famous (and touristy) churches in Paris. All our worthy of a visit if you have the time and any visit to Paris would be wasted without seeing at least three or four of them. Parisian churches not only plot a history of the city, its district and its Royalty, but they are also some of the most beautiful buildings in and already beautiful city.

- Sacre Coeur Basilica (see our full page guide, accessed from the Attractions to see in Paris page.)
- Les Invalides (see our full page guide, accessed from the Attractions to see in Paris page.)
- St. Etienne du Mont (A Gothic Abbey Church, built btween 1492 and 1626 that is visited by pilgrims and stands on the site of an old abbey.)
- Pantheon (A Neo Classical Abbey, Church and Pantheon. It was originally part of an abbey dedicated to St. Genevieve and is now the burial place for French heroes. It was built from 1806 to 1842.)
- St-Clotilde (A twin spired Neo Gothic Basilica, built from 1845 to 1857.)
- St. Denis (Another burial site of Frenck Kings, this Gothic Basilica was built between the years of 1136 and 1290.)
- Sainte-Chapelle (A 13th-century Gothic chapel built by King Louis IX between 1241 and 1248 and renown for its stained glass.)
- St. Germain l'Auxerrois (A Gothic church built in the 14th century.)
- St. Germain-des-Pres (A Romanesque Abbey church with origins dating back to 1163 and a connection with Spain.)
- Chapelle Expiatoire (A chapel from the early nineteenth century built on a site with a long history.)
- Saint Jacques Tower (This is actually only a tower, the church was demolished in 1797, but it remains a famous landmark.)
- Saint Louis en l'lle Church (an early seventeenth century church which few tourist visit.)
- Saint Pierre de Montmartre (This is a small but beautiful next to the Sacre Coeur Basilica and it is often overlooked.)
- St-Sulpice (A very large Baroque church built between 1646 and 1745.)
