Paris Weekend Break
Why not take a Paris winter weekend break
Paris is one of the greatest cities in the world and receives millions of international visitors every year. In fact, when it comes to weekend break destinations, Paris is hard to beat with it culture, sightseeing and romantic settings.
There is however one other great feature of Paris and that is its year round visitor appeal. Paris is every bit as good a destination in January as it is in August.
Unlike many other destinations and resorts, Paris does not require hot sunny days to make a weekend break worthwhile. Good weather naturally helps, but the appeal of Paris is its vast range of tourist attractions ranging form galleries and museums to the Champs Elysees, Notre Dame and the Palace of Versailles.
These internationally recognised icons of heritage, art and history mean that there is always something to see and do in Paris and the weather, be it good or bad, has little impact on being able to enjoy them.
Why visit Paris in winter
It is hard to find reasons for not visiting Paris during the winter months and easy to find reasons for visiting Paris during this season.
The two big advantages of a Paris winter weekend break are accommodation and transport, both of which see reduced tariffs outside of the main summer season.
When it comes to hotels, Paris has something for everyone with accommodation stretching from bed and breakfasts to five star hotels. Even so, prices at nearly every establishment drop, often significantly, over the late autumn and winter period. Naturally Christmastime sees room rates return to a premium, but at all other times between October and April prices tend to be significantly reduced. The winter can be a very affordable time to visit Paris.
Flights, the ferry, and the channel tunnel (for those in the mainland UK) all see tickets costs fall, or a myriad of special offers and discount tariffs appear.
Everyone in tourism sees the off-season as a time to survive rather than to make a profit, and prices often come closer to reflecting operating costs rather than the money making periods of spring and summer.
Even so, shopping around, checking adverts on the internet and comparing one hotel booking company’s rates with another will enable you to get the best possible deal.
If you want to see Paris at Christmas, then this too need not be overly expensive, but the way to reduce costs is to book early rather than wait until demand out paces availability.
Get in early and secure your booking before the hotels fill up and make sure that you have flight, ferry or cross channel trains available for your intended arrival and departure dates.
